We have fished fresh and salt, flats and deep, fly, spinning, and bait.
Fishing is our primary love! Somehow, who knows how or why, this is something in our blood! You can say we were emersed in it at a young age by our father, which we were, but its more than that. Who knows, who's like us, damn few!
The following slides represent the fish that really get us pumped up although I don't believe there is a fish that doesn't. Well maybe one or two... a sea robin comes to mind!
Precision guesswork based upon unreliable data, provided by those of questionable knowledge.
The "Holy Grail" of flats fly fishing! Most devotee's of permit fishing will never need both hands to count the number of permit caught in a life time. Besides being a little spooky, their favorite feeding station is a razor sharp volcanic coral reef. I think it would be a better measure if you count how many you missed instead. I am currently at 26 28 missed permit.
Solid muscle and near invisible, these torpedoes can run through your line quickly. You can tell a good fish by getting down to the backing of your fly line or the loud screaming of a good spinning reel. Ned and I have created special jigs we use (well actually everybody, including the the fly fishermen on occasion) to catch more bones than the fly fishermen.
Just a cantancerous old fish. If a bass grew as large as a shark, I would never swim again. The most sought after, cash-generating fish in North America..
Seatrout, speck, weakfish, a wily predator. Up north they call them weakfish because they have a paper thin mouth. Down in Texas "troutheads" (fanatics) will only wade for them, say a boat will scare them. Ned caught a 10lb'er right by the boat. Of course the boat was a Hells Bay flats boat and the guide was the Capt. Freddie Lynch. "Nough" said!
All shoulders with an attitude. This bull dog will let you know when he's ready to come in. Ned and I have been right beside 60 inch fish and are still waiting for the day we hook one. The first time Win Sr. joined us in Corpus he boated one just a hair short of 50 inches, of course with Capt Freddie Lynch and his Hell's Bay!
"The Silver King"... A superb acrobat that will get air before you even know it's on. Known for their explosiveness, endurance, and leaping ability while reaching upwards of 200 pounds. Most veteran anglers are much happier when they hook a 40 pounder and it get's off after a few jumps.
One of the best all-around fighting fish usually featured by several long runs and a few jumps. If there is a snag in sight he'll wrap you, if your light in the leader he'll break you. Ned and I generally use bass lures and fish them almost like bass.
Although fished in both fresh and salt water, we head up to Long Island to see our father and go out sight casting for them around Gardners Island and Napeague Bay. Crystal clear cold water and no crowd. In the water that is, it will take you all day to get out to "the Hamptons"on the weekend.
Strong, aggressive, fast, and teeth... Not enough adjectives to describe this fish. We used to chase them with Pops in his old Mako and see acres of blues churning the water like a washing machine.
I'm not sure about this "fish". It has wings and feet. We always get yelled at by Dad if we hook one. And by chance if we do, we make him take it off the hook. Damn ugly!
